The brief

US President Donald Trump has chosen conservative commentator Katie Zacharia to be the next White House press secretary.

The story

US President Donald Trump has chosen conservative commentator Katie Zacharia to be the next White House press secretary. Zacharia currently works for Trump Media & Technology Group and has been a frequent fixture on conservative Newsmax and Fox News.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Zacharia has been a senior communications adviser for Trump's media company and Truth Social platform since June. She previously worked in Homeland Security from February to March this year, but left due to the strain of travel on her family.

Zacharia has long been a defender of President Trump and his administration's policies. In a June interview with the BBC, she dismissed criticism of Trump's use of the White House to host a televised UFC fight, saying the principles of the UFC align with the Constitutional Republic.

A closer look

Trump called Zacharia 'loyal' and 'a devoted fan and member of MAGA' in a social media post on Friday, referring to his Make America Great Again movement. He added that she had 'an unblemished record of support' and would 'deliver strong results for our Country' as the next White House Press Secretary.

Zacharia thanked Trump in a post on X, writing that serving the president and the American people at this critical time was 'the honor of a lifetime.' She said she looked forward to working with the White House press corps and reporters across the country to 'get that record out'.

The White House press secretary role has been vacant since August, when its previous holder, Karoline Leavitt, resigned to spend more time with her family.
