Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick's future at the club remains uncertain as he arrives at the training ground amidst speculation over his potential sacking.
The story
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has arrived at the club's training ground, but his future at the team remains uncertain. According to BBC Sport, Carrick's position is under major threat following the team's poor start to the season, with eight matches without a victory under his leadership. The 45-year-old's arrival at the training ground on Tuesday morning comes as the club prepares to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
BBC Sport reports that director of football Jason Wilcox, who has been criticised by supporters over the club's transfer business in the summer, was also pictured arriving at Carrington. It is understood that Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann are among the candidates being considered to replace Carrick, with both managers aware of United's interest.

The Guardian — Sport also reports that Howe is fully open to joining United if Carrick loses his job, but would require a multi-million pound compensation package from Newcastle. Nagelsmann is available after leaving his job as Germany head coach after the World Cup, while Antonio Conte is open to returning to football after leaving Napoli in May.
Carrick signed a two-year deal with United at the end of last season, after guiding the club to a third-place finish in the Premier League during an interim spell in charge. However, the 20-time English top-flight champions will be looking to appoint their eighth permanent manager or head coach since Sir Alex Ferguson departed the club in 2013 if Carrick is dismissed.
